Workbook for kids 'Kind Country'

Workbook to assist teacher or homeschooling mum

Homeschooling mumThe moral education workbook for kids is aimed at building awareness in children of the importance of kindness, through the study of literature with a moral content.

The suggested poems, exercises and creative games in workbook KIND COUNTRY are aimed at encouraging children to form a social and moral relationship with the surrounding world, by developing positive qualities such as kindness, honesty and friendliness.

All lessons in the workbook offer short games involving movement to help kids release tension and overcome tiredness, and encourage them to be both reflective and creative.

The teacher (homescholing mum) can vary the methods of working with the texts, and use lessons completely or partly. Alternatively teacher can adapt workbook's lessons depending on the children’s age and level of development.

The authors would be pleased to receive any comments you may have.

Workbook 'Kind Country': About Authors

The project on moral education, homeschooling, ecology and healthy food for kids has been founded in 1995 by two women: educators Lopatina and Skrebtsova. Since then over 80 books and 8 methodical grants has been published (more than 1 million copies sold already): Wisdom Alphabet, Kind Mathematics, The World of Music, Trees Decorate the World, Unique Professions, Nature through the Eyes of the Soul, World of Fruit, Storytellers about Vegetables... Books are being published in different languages, including English, Dutch, Russian.

Hundreds educational workshops were conducted with participation of teachers from more than 3,000 children's organizations who use our books in their daily school work with kids.

Authors receive grateful letters & phone calls from the most remote areas in Russia and abroad. Mostly these are letters from teachers, school principals, librarians and, indeed, parents. New vision, effective ideas and creative lessons bring new insight in educators' work with children. POEM-ADVICE

There’s something inside you, knock knock knock,

It’s the sound of your heart, ticking like a clock.

All day long and all night too,

Your tireless heart works hard for you.

From time to time your heart may ache,

And perhaps even feel like it’s going to break.

But luckily it’s quick to heal,

And get rid of the hurt that you may feel.

To stop your heart from feeling bad,

Be helpful and kind to those who are sad,

Smile at people you don’t yet know,

And your heart will warm you wherever you go.

Lesson 'WHO WE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR?'

Aim: To teach children to be responsible for their actions, and fulfill any promises they have made.

Poem I’M RESPONSIBLE FOR EVERYONE

I’ve reached 10 years old

And everything must change,

I’m responsible for others now,

I should be grown up at my age.

I must play with my little brother,

And make sure he doesn’t get bored,

And I have to look after granddad

Because he’s sick in bed with a cold.

Game: ‘Who is responsible?’

Teaching about responsibilityThe children stand in a circle, and the teacher goes into the middle with a ball. He or she throws the ball to each of the children in turn, presenting them with some sort of situation. For example:

  • A boy goes out to play and leaves his little sister on her own;
  • A boy goes away for the weekend and forgets to leave food for their cat;
  • A girl gets up early to water the household plants;
  • Dad takes his son to the swimming pool to teach him how to swim before they go on a trip to the seaside.

The child who catches the ball must say whether or not the person is behaving responsibly in each situation. If the majority of children agree with their opinion, the child who has answered takes a step towards the middle of the circle. If the children disagree with someone’s opinion, that child stays where they are. The aim of the game is to get to the teacher as quickly as possible.

Creative game: ‘If mummy’s not at home’

The children stand in a circle and take it in turns to name things their mother does for the family. Then the children must imagine their mummy has gone away for a week and they have to do the things she usually does. The children take it in turns to talk about how they would carry out mum’s work and activities. The children should try and put their ideas into practice at home.

Mummy at home

Creative task: drawing game

Read the children the proverb: ‘The sun shines with brightness, and mummy shines with kindness.’

Ask the children to draw a picture of a sun. The rays of sun represent their mummy’s good qualities.

Game for kids: ‘The circle of honesty’

Divide the children into two teams. The members of one team stand in a circle hold hands and lift their hands up in the air. This is the circle of honesty. The members of the second team stand on tiptoes and run in and out of the circle of honesty one after the other, like a little stream. When the music stops, the children pretending to be the circle of honesty drop their hands and don’t let anyone out of the circle. Those remaining in the circle must take it in turns to talk about something honest they have done. The teams then swap places.

Cut-out game: ‘The dream flower’

Discuss with the children what they need to do in order to fulfil their dreams, and help them make a cut-out of a ‘dream flower’. The children should stick as many petals to the flower as they have dreams.  It might be a good idea to save the children’s work and have another look at it a year later, discussing which of the dreams have been fulfilled.

Lesson about mother's love PDF Print E-mail

LESSON 'MOTHER’S LOVE IS THE BEST IN THE WORLD'

Aim: To teach children to observe and appreciate their mothers’ love.

Poetry for kids 'MY BEAUTIFUL MUMMY'

Mummy works from dawn to dusk,

She’s as busy as a bee.

Every moment’s important to her,

She hardly has any time free.

She’s happy to give up her life for us,

And wants us to succeed,

At every little thing we do,

She fulfils our every need.

She kisses us and cuddles us,

And sometimes tells us off,

She doesn’t sleep when we can’t sleep,

Or when we have a cough.

Mums are the most lovely people,

In the whole entire world,

Their radiant smiles light up the lives

Of every boy and girl.

My beautiful mum

Questions to accompany the poem

What do mothers do for their children?

Talk about the things you do with your mummy.

Talk about how your mum has helped you in a difficult situation.

Answer the following questions about your mother:

What flower your mummy like?

What she likes to do?

What makes her happy?

What has she taught you?

CARING ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE

Aim: To teach children to appreciate the care their parents give them, and to care about each other.

Taking care of my mum

Poem for kids 'I’LL TAKE CARE OF MUM'

Mummy isn’t feeling well,

Her nose I’ll run and buy some pills today,

To make her nasty cold go away.

is blocked and she can’t smell.

I’ll get a box of cough sweets too,

And magazines she can flick through,

A box of tissues, and some tea,

With honey and lemon, prepared by me!
